Police Search for Man Accused of Leaving Shotgun at Hotel in Greenwich Township, NJ
The suspect is a 27-year-old male who reportedly lives on Chestnut Street in Oxford Township, New Jersey. According to authorities, the suspect was a guest at the America’s Best Value Inn located in Greenwich Township, NJ.
Greenwich Township cops were sent to the hotel around 3:00 a.m. after police received a call from a man who claimed to have locked himself inside a bathroom. The called told a police dispatcher that he was trying to hide from people who were armed with handguns, knives, and other weapons.
Police officers soon arrived at the scene and spoke to the person who dialed 911. However, the man did not remember calling police in the first place.
The Greenwich Township police officers still searched two rooms at the hotel and allegedly found a 12-gauge shotgun. Since the room was rented to the suspect, law enforcement was able to obtain an arrest warrant.
If and when police are able to locate and apprehend the suspect, he will likely face criminal charges for weapons offenses that include unlawful possession of a weapon and a certain persons offense for being a convicted felon prohibited from owning or carrying a firearm.
A conviction on either weapons offense could lead to severe penalties. That’s because the crimes are classifies as third degree felonies and carry punishments of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
